Concerned w/ 12 Y.O. daughter's friend

I have a 12 year old daughter that has a friend (girl) that has become a little too close for comfort. They have been texting each other that they love each other and have dreams about each other at night. One of the texts said "I want to hold your hand" and others say I miss you so much. I am so shocked, confused and sad. I'm not sure how to handle this situation, as I don't want to have a bad relationship with my daughter. She is so young and she seems to be obsessed with this girl. Any insight or advice would be appreciated.

I guess it's hard to say what actually crosses the line here. Some girls tend to be more affectionate with their friends (hugging/kissing goodbye etc). I think, at that age, it is actually normal to be "obsessed" with another girl to some extent. Your daughter is at that age where kids tend to single out a friend or two, and really admire and emulate them. They think the other person is so cool that they walk on water, want to spend all their time with them... it's almost like they want to BE them. I remember being really grabby and slap-happy with my friends at that age. You could always talk to a schoolcounselor or child psychologist to see if your daughter's interactions with this friend cross the line and have become unhealthy.
