Any advice is appreciated

A very close relative has a soon to be 13 yr old son, she's had ups & downs with family life/stability etc...but I think is actually doing her best, her son has now stolen 4 guns from family members, the guns have been returned, and has stolen money from anyplace he could find, just to have it. however she's asked me for advice as to what to do to help get to the bottom of  his behavior, he's been violent, withdrawn and very angry, the family memebers have thought about pressing charges, she is afraid, the guns were locked in cabinets, he broke in to get them, she's asked him why he would do it, his answer, a very angry reply is " Just because" incidently he is ADHD and on a low dose of medication, also a medication for compulsiveness, I'm unsure of what it is.  Does anyone have any advice on how I can help? She said she is at the end of her rope, I'm worried, she also has a 15 year old daughter in the same house.  Please respond, (they in a very small town in Maryland if anyone knows of any resources) Thank You so much

My little sister's friends (who were about 10 at the time) broke into our house and stole a lot of things including a gun about 8 years ago. I don't know what they were thinking, but they weren't bad kids. Anyway, my mom decided to press charges because they had to know that this was NOT okay. It was really hard because we liked these kids and we were pretty close with their family. They were the type of friends we would invite on family outings and things like that. Our friendship was different after that, but going through the ordeal made a deep impression. It became very clear that there were limits. After that they stayed out of trouble, and it's been 8 years. I hope this helps.

I thank you for taking time out of your day to respond.  I'm glad to hear that they are good kids, & like you say about not knowing what kids think & how they think, my cousins son isn't a bad kid either, he can be so caring & so sweet, we're just afraid something may happen again, who knows what & to what extent.  I think he took them just to see if he could, not to be cool but just because....she's afraid because it first started with small stuff from his sister from her etc...before the guns incident he stole money from her($300.00) because he wanted a mini-bike, he did give it back though after she made him hand it over, I really hope it doesn't get worse and she can get to the bottom of the issue if there is one to be dealt with, thank you again, it was nice of you to share your story.
