My Biting Toddler! Help!

My 2 1/2 year old daughter has a biting issue. She has been biting lately for no reason, and today I had to leave work and remove her from her day care because she bit someone on the nose, and then that same little kid later in the day! What should I do? Time outs and that "No, we don't bite" stuff just isn't working.

Both of my children were "biters".  I tried soap in the mouth, biting them back, time out, "no, no, no".  And they still continued to bite.  I'm not trying to scare you, but I do believe it's a stage they have to work thru on their own.  They eventually stopped biting on their own, thank god, because nothing stopped them.

my son was biting from 1 1/2 yrs. to 3. He goes to preschool and did get suspended for a week. It was a terrible thing to go through. nothing worked. i tried soap, hot sauce, time outs, no toys, no t.v. , and so many more but he kept biting and mostly it appeared for no reason at all. finally i guess he just deciced to stop and i am so grateful. i hope you have better luck and it doesn't go on for too long. Just keep loving her and reminding her that it's not nice. good luck!

I'm an early years practitioner who works with a class of two year olds. Biting can be quite common in this age group, but very worrying for parents. At nursery, what we try to do is ignore the biting child and make a big fuss of the child who has been bitten, giving them lots of hugs and attention. The biting is usually an attention seeking exercise, and this way, the biting child doesn't get the attention they seek. It does seem to help most children who are doing it.

My toddler is 2 1/2 and is still biting.  I do daycare at home and recently lost one of the boys I watched because of it.  I've tried everything and nothing helps.  I recently went to and that gave me some great advice.  It made me understand that my childs not a monster and when most kids bite it's because another child provoked them but the bitter is the one who gets in trouble.
