Asking for travel advice

We are going on a 3 to 4 hour airplane ride with my 1 1/2 year old and my 3 year old. Does anyone have any travel tips to help it be fun and safe for my kids? Also we will be staying in about an hour north of Chicago Illinois for 2 weeks. Does anyone know of fun places to visit with little ones around there?

Hey Jo,

It is exciting to be taking your kids to the Chicago area, what fun.  Will your husband be traveling with you?  If he will then you can both have a child which will make it easier on you.  One thing I always did for car or plane trips was to get the kids new special little toys and not let them even see them until the plane is up in the air and going.  New packs of crayons and a coloring book.  Some small travel game that your older child would enjoy.  New books that they will want to read, maybe a new little stuffed animal who can be their traveling buddy.  I also liked to pack little special treats in the bag to help with the ear popping and also just to give them something that they don't usually get.  I would just do a little special bag for each of them.  Oh, matchbox cars are a great thing to put in the bags, small and cheap but a lot of fun.

I don't know much about what is available in the Chicago area for kids, I know I had a blast as an adult.  One place I would take them for sure is FAO Schwartz, that is such a magical place especially for kids.  I think they also have the American Girl store there if your older child is a girl, if not, I would probably save that for another visit.  I am betting they have a children's museum and some other fun things like that.

Anyone have any ideas?

Marti
