In between doctors and need medication

Need your suggestions as I am hoping I am not the only one that has been in this situation.  We recently had a disagreement with my son's psychiatrist due to a supposed missed appointment.  Long story short - we don't have a psychiatrist and my son only has 3 more pills left.  He is on Concerta and his family doctor will not prescribe it.  I don't know what to do.  I have an appointment with a new psychiatrist in January - but I think two months without medication will be detrimental to our 9 year old.  Any ideas would be welcomed and appreciated.

Is it possible for you to make an emergency appointment with a pediatrician or another psychiatrist? Regular appointments are one thing but an emergency is another. Taking a child off Concerta when they are prescribed this drug for a reason is not going to be a good idea. Most of these drugs are effective only due to "blood levels" that must be reached with the daily dosage being given on time and no doses being skipped. To me, this qualifies as an emergency. My mother is also a doctor and I asked her this qustion and she said two, whatever the disagreement was with the other doctor, they should still be able to give you a script to tide you over until the new psychiatrist is onboard. If not, then the doctor is being overly petty and isn't thinking of the patient which happens to be a child. Two.....if you call the new doctor and state the emergency status of this prescription, provide a number where they can access your child's records, they might be willing to extend the script. It's worth a shot. The last alternative is costly but it may work too......take him to the ER at the hospital and have him seen. Let them know what has happened and bring the medicine container with you. It's going to be expensive but when all else fails, the ER usually has to treat everyone who comes in. I wish you luck because if you child needs that Concerta to remain focused and in control, the absence of it will not prove to be a good thing. Let us know what happens.
