Shingles

My 5 year old who has never had chicken pox has shingles. Her doctors were even surprised but said that is what she has. Has anyone else had this happen? She has been vaccinated against chickenpox. Everything I have read says that is also supposed to protect her from shingles. Could this mean she has a low immune system?

Hey debdeb,

What did your doctor say about the possibility of a low immune system?  I am not sure that the vaccination would necessarily protect you from shingles since actually having chicken pox doesn't protect you from having shingles.

If you are not feeling like you are getting the answers you need from the current doctor, I would get a second opinion.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Thank yo ufor your response. They felt if she had a low immune system it would be worse than it is. I showed it to a friend who had a teen that had it last yr and she said it look s like the same thing.

Thanks

HI SHINGLES IS NOT PROTECTED BY THE VACCINE.USUALLY BOUGHT ON BY A TRAUMATIC EVENT OR EXTREMELY LOW IMMUNE SYSTEM.LOOK ON HISTORY HEALTH PAGES VERY HELPFUL.

When I had shingles, I was told that most people have the virus in their system, but it comes out in times of high stress.  I have not heard of the low immune system causing it.  I have had chicken pox and still got shingles.
