Hi laura

I have never heard the name Gabbyodeny before, what is the origin of that--where did you hear it, is it a family name?  I like the name Kate a lot, I like Katherine and call her Kate--I have a cousin called Katey and I have always thought that is a nice name.  Your name, Laura, is also a nice name.

Hi nibbies,

It is funny how name association works isn't it?  There are some names I am just not fond of and most all of those involve someone I knew with the name that just wasn't a nice person at all and then there are other names where everyone I have ever known with that name was a wonderful person.

I just had to reply - Kate is a great name! I wanted to call my daughter Katherine (possible Kate as a nn) but we named her Laura Katherine.  I get so many compliments on her name.  Laura is pretty and classic but not trendy.  She just turned 6 and she loves her name because nobody else has it.

Hey KOFAZ

Wow, it is too funny that you named your daughter two of the names I mentioned loving.

I love classic names, I think that people have to have their names a long time and classic winds up being easier to deal with sometimes than trendy does.

Keep posting!

I like Gabriel for a boy and Lucy for a girl. I thought Lucy wasn't very common anymore, but when my daughter was born and we named her that the nurse said that there were 3 Lucy's born in that hospital in the last few days.
There is a girl in my town named Brett which is a fine name for a boy, but I'd hate to do that to a girl. My name is Jo, and it's been hard enough for me with all the phone calls and letters for "Mr. Jo ......"

When I was young I thought if I ever had a girl I would name her Hope.  I always loved that name and thought it was beautiful and uncommon.  Unfortunately, my now ex disagreed and we settled on Taylor (with my last name as her middle, at least).  Now there are "Taylors" everywhere!  I also like the classic name Lisa.  How can you be ugly when you're named Lisa?  Last two are a little exotic:  Petra and Brisa.  Now that I am divorced, I wish I could have chosen another name.  Oh well, she looks like a Taylor.  Thanks.  I think boy's names are more difficult, so I'm glad I had a girl (at 43!).  Kind of like Alec.

I like that names that you don't here a lot, Chandra or Majesta for a girl. Gavin or Jathen for a boy.

I guess I like them because I grew up with a unusal name, Charlene. I've only meet one other Charlene in my whole life.

cid

Hey Charlene,

I live in NC and have lived in the south my whole life and where I live Charlene is not an unusual name at all.  One of my best friends in junior high school was named Charlene and I have known lots and lots of Charlenes.

It is funny that where you live can affect whether or not a name is popular or whether you have ever heard it before.

I'm from the old school when it comes to girls' and boys' names. I don't have kids myself, but if I did, especially a girl, I would have named her Lisa. I was a  big fan of the late Eva Gabor, who of course, played Lisa Douglas on Green Acres, and also, my middle name is Elizabeth (Lisa is a form of Elizabeth).

Here are some of my other choices:

Girls: Angela, Sheila, Diana, April;

Boys: Richard, Jason, Jerry

I can't seem to understand why parents give their kids such unusual names. For example: Madison, Taylor, and McKenzie are not very feminine-sounding first names for girls; these are common last names. Caitlin sounds too Southern, and Hannah is an old lady's name. (Richard Nixon's mother's first name was Hannah).

Even a lot of celebrities are giving their kids such really names. For example:

Bruce Willis' daughters are name Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah; not very feminine, and Tallulah is too Southern (the late actress Tallulah Bankhead was Southern.

Frank Zappa's kids are named Dweezil, Moon Unit, and Ahmed; terrible names, and the last one sounds like a Muslim name.

Who on earth would want to name their baby Apple (like Gwyneth Paltrow) or Coco (like Courtney Cox; she must have named her baby after the late fashion designer, Coco Chanel)?

Sissy Spacek's daughter is named Schuyler; which is also to me, not very feminine-sounding. But I did read that when she was pregnant with her, she and her husband decided to name it Schuyler, regardless of whether or not it was a boy or a girl, because I believe it was  because it was the name of the town in Virginia that he grew up in.

One of Connie Stevens' daughters by Eddie Fisher has named her two girls Skylar and True. Casey and Jean Casem named their daughter Liberty Irene, and of course, Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger named their daughter after a country, Ireland.

Come on now; let's get real here. Stick to the old-fashioned names like John, Mary, Michael, Sharon, Elizabeth, Cheryl, Barbara, and so forth.

I like unique names. but not too unique.

My favorite names are Sawyer for a girl, or Mabel for a girl. I think those names are really cute and sweet. For a boy, I like the name Nash. I also like for a girl: Pilar, Piper, and Shepry.

When I grow up I really want 4 kids, 3 girls, 1 boy.

hi all,

I remember when I was young I really loved the name Destiny for a girl and Levi for a boy. But I have grown up now and I have four children and their names are Kaylah, Shanice, Haydn and Logan. I always get compliments on all their names and alot of people say I pick really nice names. Other names I like are Charlotte, Tahlia, Alyssa for girls and for boys I like strong names such as Steven, Shane, Andrew as well as Owen, Riley, and Bryce. I hope these help.

Names are tough!  What one likes, someone else doesn't.  First names should go with the last name, too!  I like different names, but not the kind that one would look at and not know how to pronounce (it makes it difficult in school, and may deter an employer from hiring because they may be uncomfortable trying to pronounce it) .  I love Emily, McKenna, Stephanie (after my grandma).  The boys were more difficult and I had 2:  Shawn (maiden name was Shaw), and Ryan (classic).  I am Nikki, not Nicole (used to hate it, now love it)

I cautiously reply to this because anytime I start thinking about baby names I have one.(yes, I definately know how I get pregnant)  I'm up to six precious kids but I'll forge ahead anyway... ;).  I love all of my kid's names: Aubrey (girl), Briahna (girl), Austin (boy), Josiah (boy), Sydney (girl) and Caleb (boy).  I also like the name Jillian for a girl and either Adam Parker or Aiden or Ethan for a boy.

I am fascinated with the meaning of names as well as heritage.  My sons are Grady (Celtic--nobleman), Garrett (Celtic--warrior), and Gage (French--a pledge, a promise).  We are finished with babies, but would have loved to name a daughter Sadie or Cate or Calista.  I also love the name Isaac (laughter--hebrew) or Frances (??--free spirit)
