This is for all you wine lovers out there! If you like to indulge in a glass of red wine after a long day, but are worried that it might hinder your weight loss efforts, I have good news for you. New research from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston has found that women who drink a moderate amount of alcohol on a regular basis, particularly red wine, are less likely to experience long-term weight gain than non-drinkers. Now, before you start indulging in an entire bottle every night, it's important to stress how much "moderate" is considered. Warning: You might be disappointed. Moderate drinking equates to four ounces, or one alcoholic beverage, a day. And it is also important to stress that, although this study is touting some health benefits, it does not outweigh the risks that come along with heavy drinking. Something else to note -- the study did not find a link between weight loss and moderate drinking, but instead did not find any clear link between drinking and weight gain. So, raise a glass of red wine if you feel the need to unwind, but be responsible and know that a truly healthy lifestyle comes from eating right and exercising. But just know it is ok to indulge every once in a while!
