Even in my late 20's, I still get a kick out of Dr. Seuss. There is no way I could ever choose a favorite book-- there's just way too many that bring back happy memories to me to pinpoint just one.
But I do know, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is still a must-see holiday movie for me (the old-school one, not the newer version.) And Green Eggs and Ham sticks out in my mind, too. And Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You?
See? I told you I couldn't pick just one.
So, even though I'm all grown up and it's been a while since I picked up one of his books, and even though I don't have any children to read his books to yet, I'd still like to give a happy birthday shout-out to one of my favorite childhood authors.
Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!
In celebration, here's a few Dr. Seuss-related activities for you and your family to enjoy:
Take the time today to read your child's favorite Dr. Seuss book, and then read your favorite one from when you were a child.
Whip up a batch of Green Soup with Ham, Sam I Am.
Create some adorably cute and fun Dr. Seuss-inspired crafts.
No matter how you celebrate, remember what an impact he had on generations of children, and his ability to encourage a love of words and reading in kids young and old. What an inspiration!
So, I'll end with a Dr. Seuss quote from his book Happy Birthday to You!:
""Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.""
