Extreme Measures: Dad Takes Kids to Jail for Bullying

An Australian man recently made headlines for taking his kids to jail for bullying.

As he was driving, he spotted his 17-year-old son and 15-year-old daughter bullying and beating a 13-year-old boy. They were apparently targeting him because he wears glasses.

The father immediately pulled over, brought the injured boy home to his parents, and promptly drove his kids to the police station, where they were charged with assault.

As further punishment, he sold his son's recently purchased car, and his daughter's horse.

The boy they were beating up suffered a broken jaw.

The father told a radio station that he did this as part of his own anti-bullying campaign, and said the event hit close to home, since he, too, wore glasses when he was a child.

His kids have since apologized, and requested that the money from their sold goods go to the boy and his family.

This incident has garnered a lot of attention because it begs the question-- what would you do in this situation? If you saw your child bullying or assaulting another kid, would you take extreme measures, such as turning them into the police?

Or would your paternal instincts to protect your child overpower your want to punish him?

Most comments I've read about this incident applaud the dad for teaching his kids a lesson they won't soon forget. But others have questioned how the kids came to be such bullies in the first place.

Was it bad parenting? Was the father somehow to blame?

Obviously people will argue both sides, but I'm wondering-- what would you do?

Tell us your thoughts!
