  • Irish : reduced form of O’Slowey, an Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Sluaghadhaigh ‘descendant of Sluaghadhach’, a personal name meaning ‘raider’, derived from sluaghadh ‘expedition’, ‘raid’. In Ulster there was also Mac Sluaghaigh, which was Anglicized as (Mc)Slowey or sometimes Molloy.
