Red, White, and Blue Pinwheel
Make a colorful pinwheel to wave on the Fourth of July. All you need are
construction paper, scissors, a wooden dowel, a brass tack, and a
glue stick. You'll also find instructions for making a patriotic
painted pot, popsicle rockets, a craft stick flag, and your very own
stars-and-stripes t-shirt.
Betsy Ross and the Flag
Learn more about the woman who sewed the first flag. Betsy Ross was an upholsterer in Philadelphia who made the flag in 1776, at the request of
General George Washington and the Congressional Committee. You can
also explore the history of the flag, from 1776 through 1995, and
learn the proper way to display and fold the flag.
Kids can find out more about Betsy Ross with Betsy Ross, Patriot of Philadelphia, a book about her life and times.
Shoot Phantom Fireworks Online
Avoid the traffic and the crowds by creating your own fireworks
display online. Choose your favorite city or location as the backdrop
(Statue of Liberty, Golden Gate Bridge, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,
Minneapolis, Miami, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Boston, Tampa, Louisville,
Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Denver, or Salt Lake City),
select the fireworks (willow, salute, palm, peony, or crossette),
then sit back and enjoy the show!
