The Constellations of Summer

There are 88 constellations visible in the night sky over the Northern Hemisphere. Listed below are the summer constellations sorted by months when the viewing is best (the time of year when they are the highest in the sky). This list was compiled by Chris Dolan of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Astronomy. Chris's list assumes you are looking at the sky at 9:00 p.m. (so you don't have to keep the kids up too late ;-). To find the exact time a constellation is visible at your location, we suggest you click on the links for more information or check a star atlas or planisphere for more details.
