Rumors and accusations by a few parents state that Ms. Rivers inappropriately discussed her gender dysphoria with students. One parent spoke about Ms. Rivers purportedly telling students that "he had been sodomized as a youth and that he always felt like he was a woman trapped in a man's body..." If Ms. Rivers used her teacher's platform to speak to students in this manner, her conduct was very unprofessional. But even if this accusation proves to be fundamentally accurate, is this one error in judgment grievous enough to remove the school's most inspiring, influential educator?

It's the students of Center High that we should be listening to. After all, it's their education that's at stake here. Maybe they would value the priceless contributions of this committed teacher more than they would seek to banish her for a heartfelt but improper explanation of her sex change decision. Maybe they understand that such an explanation was given, along with a 2,600-word interview in the school newspaper, to help them through their confusion in this matter. I guarantee you that their reasoning and decisions would be based on fairness and their desire to learn.
