Gunman Kills Three In Alabama Office Shootings

PELHAM, Ala. (Reuters) -- A gunman shot and killed three people Thursday in two office buildings in Pelham, Alabama, police said.

A police spokesman said that a suspect had been detained after the incident, the latest in a series of multiple shootings in recent months in the United States

"We have one in custody holding for a homicide investigation," Lt. A.S. Florence said.

He said he could not comment on any details about the incident until a news conference, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. EDT in the city of 10,000 south of Birmingham.

The incident was the latest in a series of mass shootings across the United States. It happened just a week after a disgruntled stock market day trader bludgeoned his wife and two children to death and then went on a shooting rampage at two Atlanta brokerages, killing nine people.

Local television stations reported that the man arrested in the Pelham incident had been fired and that one of the people he shot was his former boss.
