Many children eat cereal every single day--some of them more than once a day. Frequent cereal eaters have higher intakes of calcium, iron, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin C, and B vitamins than infrequent cereal eaters, but many of the most popular cereals are loaded with sugar.
Parents have said repeatedly that they would like to see cereals that have the fun and flavor of their kids' favorite cereals, but with much less sugar. To meet that need, General Mills has modified several of their cereals, reducing the sugar by 75 percent, while maintaining great taste.
Reduced Sugar Trix, Reduced Sugar Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Reduced Sugar Cocoa Puffs contain just two or three grams of sugar per serving. Much of the sugar has been replaced by Splenda, a non-caloric sweetener made from sugar and other carbohydrates, that provides the same great taste as sugar. These General Mills cereals are the first "kid cereals" to be made with Splenda, but they follow in the footsteps of other products often consumed by kids, which include Pedialyte, fruit drinks, yogurt, and fruit cups.
Just like the original brands, the reduced-sugar cereals provide essential vitamins and minerals, and are fine nutritional choices for both children and adults.
Try one or more of these great new cereals and clip the box tops, and you can earn money for your school. You will enjoy significantly less sugar, as well as the great taste that kids and adults have loved for generations!
